Reimagining the Newburgh Mall

Changes are underway at the Newburgh Mall to complement the recent opening of Resorts World Hudson Valley (RWHV), New York’s newest casino.  After breaking ground in the Summer of 2021, the casino opened their doors to the public in December 2022. The casino grand opening was a tremendous success with visitors waiting in line from the casino doors all the way to the other end of the mall. The 90,000 sq ft state-of-the-art gaming facility is equipped with 1,200 machines and the lively Resorts World BET Sports Bar.  With the casino as an anchor, the mall is now ripe for food, beverage, and entertainment venues that will benefit from the new foot traffic.

With two million visitors projected to pass through Resorts World Hudson Valley’s doors annually, the shopping center has seen a substantial uptick in traffic.  Local residents have already commented on the bustling parking lot as they drive by.  With the increase of local, regional and national tourism, the mall ownership is shifting some of its focus toward creating an authentic Hudson Valley destination by designating an area of the property for artisan shops where local craftsman can build and sell their products.  A redesign of the interior and exterior of the property is in the works as well.

Newburgh Mall spokeswoman Lisa Giammattei noted how they are eager to illustrate what the Hudson Valley has to offer, “We live in a beautiful and unique area that offers many different locally owned artisan shops, galleries, restaurants, farms, breweries, wineries, and distilleries. We want to showcase that same uniqueness throughout the property, something you may not get by visiting a typical retail center.  This will be a tourist destination that will have the best of what the Hudson Valley has to offer under one roof.”

Scott Manley, Deputy Supervisor of the Town of Newburgh.  "When the mall opened in 1980, I worked at Howlands, the mall is very special to me and now as Deputy Supervisor seeing it come back is very exciting. The future is bright for the mall and our community. The new ownership has some exciting plans, and I cannot wait for many more new announcements.

Conor Eckert, Vice President at the Orange County Partnership, applauded the mall's focus on becoming a tourism destination, explaining “The Newburgh mall is undergoing a transformation. With Resorts World Hudson Valley as the anchor tenant, there is significant opportunity for local and national brands to experience new foot traffic and tourism activity.  Recruiting a unique mix of dining, retail, and creative experiences will position the mall to not only attract the weekend visitor, but also serve as a tremendous local amenity for residents.”

“Since unveiling our plans for Resorts World Hudson Valley, we have been welcomed by the community with open arms, led by the Newburgh Mall’s ownership and management team and our tenant neighbors there,” said Meghan Taylor, VP Government Affairs & Public Relations.

The Mall has already sprung into action with the addition of a new seating lounge with public Wi-Fi, and innovative food vending service; offering food selections from locally owned Pamela’s on the Hudson, Noto’s Deli, and Itzmi Japanese Restaurant, an in-use movie production stage, and the display of some of Newburgh’s Motorcyclepedia Museum’s vibrant vehicles.  The mall ownership is soon to announce a handful of new tenants, including leasing out half of the former Sear’s space to a national tenant, the reopening of the Newburgh Library’s extension location, and the addition of ChaShaMa Art Gallery which will include a workshop for artists, display artwork, and serve as a community event space with a 200-person capacity- the mall is on course to become a unique draw and experience for residents and visitors alike.

Building from the existing thirty plus tenants such as, Chilitos Mexican Restaurant, Custom Tees, Designed Grind coffee shop, Flaming Grill Buffet, Jules Vision, Mister Pizza, Personal Touch salon, Royal Cutz barber, VBI Cell Accessories, and VIP Nails; with many existing nationally recognized retail stores, together with local and regional artisans, food and entertainment opportunities, and the opening of Resorts World Casino has put The Newburgh Mall on the path to a successful Shop, Eat, and Play Destination for all to enjoy.

The Newburgh Mall is actively seeking and taking inquires for leasing space.  Please contact lisa@newburghmall.com or call 845-564-1400 for additional information.
