Balchem Announces New Microencapsulation Manufacturing Facility in Orange County
Balchem, a leading global manufacturer of specialty ingredients for human nutrition and health, has announced plans to develop a new, high-capacity microencapsulation manufacturing facility in Orange County, New York. The expanded plant will be built on a 12-acre site and is expected to open in 2027, significantly increasing production capacity for Balchem’s advanced microencapsulation solutions, including BakeShure®, ConfecShure®, and MeatShure®.
These technologies are widely used in bakery, confectionery, and meat products, delivering tangible benefits for manufacturers and consumers alike such as extended shelf life, improved texture, and enhanced production efficiency. The investment positions Balchem to meet growing global demand while continuing to innovate and serve customers worldwide.
Scaling to Meet Global Demand
Microencapsulation plays a critical role in controlling the release and maintaining the functionality of sensitive food ingredients. By improving stability and handling characteristics, these solutions help food manufacturers optimize production across a wide range of applications—from baked goods and confectionery to meat products and beyond.
“Our new facility will offer so much: state-of-the-art equipment and processes, increased production capacity for our microencapsulation solutions, and a whole host of opportunities to advance the design, manufacture, and application of controlled-release ingredients,” said Ted Harris, Chairman, President, and CEO of Balchem. “This strategic investment strengthens our foothold in the U.S. and aligns with our mission to make the world a healthier place.”
Partnership That Gets Projects Across the Finish Line
The Orange County Partnership worked closely with Balchem throughout the expansion process helping evaluate sites, navigate local and state coordination, and advance the project from concept to commitment.
“Balchem’s decision to grow in Orange County underscores the strength of our advanced manufacturing and food science ecosystem,” said Conor Eckert, President & CEO of the Orange County Partnership. “Our team worked hand-in-hand with Balchem to support site planning, coordinate with public partners, and keep this project moving forward. This investment is a testament to what’s possible when a global company and a local economic development team collaborate with a shared goal of long-term growth.”
The new facility further reinforces Orange County’s role as a competitive location for high-value manufacturing, innovation, and global supply chain operations.
